The legend tells that Count Jacques Gerard Delarocque lived in the sumptuous Rochefort manor.

Not much was known about his life, except that he was orphaned at an early age and that the legacy left by his parents allowed him to study Western cultures, become passionate about the arts and cultivate his passion for beauty.

In 1815, during a revolt provoked by Napoleon’s general mobilization order, Jacques rescued an unconscious girl and took her to his castle. As the sun went down, after several days in which the count had lost his appetite for the woman’s condition, he decided to start dinner by opening a bottle from his cellar.

The room filled with a sweet, fruity fragrance that penetrated the woman’s nose and made her breathe again. At that moment, the girl woke up and the count was fascinated by the eyes of the young woman while the woman, still stunned, was fascinated by the court’s kindness. It was love at first sight.

The count swore eternal love to his lady and promised that together they would seal their love in wine so that anyone who drinks it will perceive the taste, aroma and passion of eternal love. On 15 April 1815, Maison Delarocque was born from the passion of the count and Marguerite. For many years, the house has been involved in supplying champagne to a small number of families of the French high nobility.
